Education plays a vital role in the building up of a dynamic and civilized society.Formal education is one of the most important aspects of education. The educational institutions shape up the kind of society we all visualize. When we think of quality education, the first and foremost requisite is availability of good teachers. Good educational policies ,latest & modern infrastructure, curriculum are all rendered useless, if the teacher lacks vision and zeal. As the role of teacher is most important in the teaching learning process, So the role of DIETs is of utmost significance. DIETs are the institutions where elementary teachers are prepared. A well trained teacher can nurture the students and bring about all around development of their personalities, which is the ultimate aim of education.

Jagraon is a sub division of Ludhiana district , located at the centre of Punjab between National Highways No.95&71. Its location is on Ferozepur Ludhiana highway 40 km. from Ludhiana and 29 km from MOGA.Jagraon is a historic town of Lala Lajpat Rai ,it is also called the town of pirs.

The first DIET was setup by MHRD & NCERT in PUNJAB was DIET JAGRAON (LUDHIANA) in 1989 . This institute has peaceful & attractive environment and spread over 9 acres .The campus has many playgrounds such as Hockey ,Footbal,Volleyball,Kho-Kho , Badminton etc.. DIET Jagraon (Ludhiana) has been allocated 100 seats for D.El.Ed course. D.El.Ed. admission for the session 2016-18 has been recently completed. For the smooth functioning of the DIET, the faculty of DIET is divided into six branches:--

DIET Jagraon (Ludhiana is one of the zones for the purpose of Action Research & program & activity. Action Research workshops are held in DIET every year. A lecturer of DIET Jagraon (Ludhiana) has been appointed as zonal co-ordinator for Action Research & other activities. . DIET Jagraon (Ludhiana) is a resource centre for the 1015 Primary schools, Middle schools 191, High schools 191 & Senior Secondary 138 of the district. DIETs impart both pre-service as well as inservice training to 3247 elementary teachers of the district.

To refresh the knowledge of teachers and to make them aware of the latest trends / techniques and focus areas in the field of education. Inservice teachers(Primary & upper primary) are imparted training by the DIET faculty from time to time as per need. Subject wise training is also imparted to teachers for the development of TLM , special training is given to primary teachers at block level and cluster level. Presently Parvesh Project is being under taken in govt. schools of Punjab. The working of this project in Ludhiana district is monitored and co-ordinated by DIET Jagraon. DIET faculty being master trainers, organize workshops for training of resource persons as well as teachers & SMC etc from time to time as required.

Lecturers of the institute are also involved in the process of preparing modules for various training programme’s for resource persons & teachers .The faculty of DIET also takes part in seminars & workshops conducted by NCERT, NIEPA, CCRT etc for refresher there knowledge & new techniques for improvement in quality of education

A lot of co-curricular, cultural activities and competetions are organized in our DIET during last year. The staff and students also celebrated national and international days like population day, Independence day, Republic day, Teachers day, Gandhi jyanti, Youth day, 150 th anniversary of Swami Viveka nand ji (Youth week) International mother-tongue day, No tobacco day, International women day, AIDS awareness programme, one day NSS camps were also held Various festivals like lohri, teej etc. were celebrated. Poem recitation, declamation, debates on social issues, chart making, poster making completion, extempore speech comp are held. Educational tours to Manali and Dehradoon were organized in the on going session. Annual prize distribution function was held to honour the outstanding students for their performance and contribution in various activities. During the next session also the above mentioned activities will be held.
